 Health is Sexy

Okay women, let’s get physical, as Olivia Newton John used to sing. Health is sexy. Not only so you feel sexier when you are healthy and in shape, sex might actually help you stay healthy. As human beings who love and care about each other, sex a way to feel close and express our love for one another, but it turns out that sex is also good for your health in a number of physical ways.

Sex can be good for your heart
Sex gets your heart rate up, which helps to keep your heart strong and you stay in good shape. Men who have sex twice a week or more have been found to cut their risk of a fatal heart attack by half.

Sex can help you lose a few pounds
It’s exercise, albeit more fun than lifting weights or running on the treadmill. Sex can actually help you drop a few pounds. I am not saying it is as effective as the treadmill (which burns 400 calories in half an hour compared to sex’s 85) but I am saying, it can be more fun and when used as a part of a healthy lifestyle it can really make a difference not only in your physical health, but strengthens your relational health as well.

Sex reduces the risk of prostate cancer
Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer, but researchers have found that men in their 20s lower their risk of developing it by a third when having regular sex. The correlation isn’t clear for older men but this seems like one research project that men would want to be a part of.

Sex is a stress reliever
Everyone knows that stress can affect your mood, your sleeping habits, and your waistline, but did you know that stress can also affect your sex life? If ignored, stress can completely derail your libido and sexual response. This is not good because sex is actually a stress reliever. Sex causes your brain to produce feel good chemicals called endorphins that relieve stress and make you feel good.  It has also been shown to help keep you calm in stressful situations because it can lower your blood pressure.

Sex can stop you from getting sick
Did you know that regular sex with your partner can help stave off colds and illnesses as it boosts your immune system? People who have sex two or more times a week have been found to have higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A, which protects you against minor illness and flu.

Sex can make you laugh and smile
Laughing has been proven to be one of the most powerful healing tools in existence. This laughing is best when it is with each other, not AT each other. : )

Sex can soothe pain
Hormones produced when you have sex are a powerful pain reliever and have been shown to sooth menstrual and arthritic pain, among other things. The chemical at work is oxytocin, the bonding hormone, which also lowers blood pressure and can be beneficial if you get migraines.

Sex sends you to sleep

This works best if it is afterwards. : ) As sex floods your system with endorphins and oxytocin, it’s ideal to promote a relaxation and a deeper, more restful sleep.

Now women after our very long days and our multitasking frenzies, we have to ask ourselves, are we too tired to get healthy?
